Some of my best career ideas come to me when I’m folding laundry.
It sounds strange, but there’s something about the repetition and rhythm that lets my mind drift to creative places. That’s when the best resume language or a new strategy for a client suddenly clicks.
When my surroundings are chaotic, I find it hard to concentrate. If the dishes are piled high and the trash is overflowing, my brain stays noisy.
So, I clear the physical clutter to create the mental space I need. I don’t deep clean my whole house every morning, but I do what I can to reset the environment so I can focus.
The same idea applies to your job search.
Waiting until your house is spotless or your schedule is wide open will only delay progress. Instead, focus on clearing one mental hurdle. Then sit down and do one thing:
- Update a bullet on your resume
- Apply to one job
- Send one networking email
That one task creates a shift. And once you start, the next step feels easier.
You don’t need a perfect day to be productive. You just need to start somewhere.
