How to Become Visible on LinkedIn (While Keeping True to Yourself)

If I had to guess, I’d say most of my clients open LinkedIn a few times a month, update something on their profile, and close the app feeling like they’ve done their part. I understand why. Posting feels exposed. It feels like something reserved for recruiters, founders, and people who are far more comfortable talking about themselves than most of us are.

But here’s the shift I want you to make this month. Visibility is about showing up often enough, and specifically enough, that the right person recognizes your name before you ever apply to their opening.

Why this matters more for job seekers than anyone else

Recruiters and hiring managers are often searching before they’re posting. They’re looking at who’s commenting thoughtfully on industry news, who’s sharing a perspective on a trend shift, who seems engaged with the space. A visible profile gets a warmer first message than a silent one, even when the resume behind it is identical.

3 things to talk about, no personal branding required

  • A lesson from your current or most recent role. Something specific, not a platitude.
  • A reaction to something happening in your industry. You don’t need a hot take, just a genuine one.
  • A question you’re actually working through in your own career. Vulnerability reads as confidence more often than people expect.

Pick 1 of these 3 buckets and post from it once this week. That’s the entire assignment.

How often is enough

Once a week, done consistently, will do more for your visibility over a month than 4 posts crammed into 1 day and then silence for 3 weeks. Consistency reads as presence. Bursts read as noise.

What to skip

Skip the posts that perform enthusiasm you don’t feel. Your network can tell the difference, and so can the recruiter deciding whether to reach out.

Coaches Tip:

Comment before you post. Spend 10 minutes leaving a genuine, specific comment on 3 posts from people in your target industry before you ever write your own post. It warms up the algorithm and gets your name in front of the right people faster than posting alone.
