Resumes: We all have one, and sometimes we think it’s perfect. But is it? 🤔
Here are five resume mistakes I see far too often—and how to avoid them to stand out from the crowd in 2024!
1️⃣ Typos and Grammatical Errors
Your resume is not the place to play “Spot the Mistake!” A simple typo could spell disaster (pun intended). Use tools like Grammarly, and get a second set of eyes on it. ✔️
2️⃣ Generic Language
“Hard-working professional with a can-do attitude.” Zzzz… If your resume reads like an old job description, it’s time to spice it up with specific examples. Make those hiring managers feel your impact!
3️⃣ Outdated Formats
The 2000s called—they want their resume format back. Use a clean, modern design. Think clear sections, white space, and easy-to-read fonts. Trust me, your future self will thank you. 🎨
4️⃣ Lack of Metrics
“Spearheaded a project” is nice, but “Spearheaded a project that boosted sales by 30%” is so much better. Numbers quantify your achievements, so show them off! 📊
5️⃣ Too Long or Too Short
Two pages max (unless you’re a C-suite executive), anything more, and you’re writing a novel. Anything less, and you may be leaving out key details. Find the sweet spot that tells your story without the fluff. 📄
