What to Bring to a Conference (Besides Business Cards)

There’s something uniquely energizing about packing for a conference. You start thinking about what to wear, how to introduce yourself, and how to make the most of your time.

But too often, professionals focus solely on the physical items and forget about the strategic tools that support their professional brand.

Here’s a short list I recommend to my clients:

  1. An up-to-date LinkedIn profile (with your QR code ready): If you’re meeting people in person, you can bet they’ll check you out online afterward. Make sure your profile reflects who you are today.
  2. A clear, confident introduction: This doesn’t have to be a polished pitch. Think of it as your opening line for meaningful conversations. Practice saying what you do, who you help, and what brings you to the event.
  3. Comfortable but professional attire: You can’t focus on connection when your shoes are killing you. Choose clothes that reflect your personal style and support a full day of networking.
  4. Energy snacks + water: Hydration and a quick granola bar can make all the difference between fading fast or finishing strong.
  5. Curiosity and kindness: These don’t fit in your bag, but they matter just as much. Approach each conversation with genuine interest, and you’ll make stronger, more memorable connections.

Remember: You don’t need to collect a lot of business cards. You need to connect!
